Startup Safety Trainer Clears Six Figures Annually with Customized LMS

Public Safety Training & Development is a training provider offering online and in-person courses throughout Florida. Their courses are count towards certification and certification renewal hours, with 40+ of them having been adopted by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training. They also offer 35 classes that are approved as college-equivalent and transfer to both Columbia Southern University and Waldorf University.

We spoke with the owner of Public Safety Training & Development, Matt Trent, to learn more about his business and the process of getting his safety training courses up and running on a learning management system platform for the first time.

In Search of Scalable Solutions

In early 2015, Public Safety Training & Development was in the early stages of business and didn't yet have much of an online presence. Their team possessed the required education, knowledge, skill, and ability to provide training and instruction...but they didn't have the technical skill-set needed to get their online course catalog up and running.

Matt realized that as long as they didn't have any online courses, they were leaving money on the table, and set out to solve the problem. He researched learning management systems, looking for a company that would be able to provide the platform to host their courses, who could also provide customized solutions within the LMS itself. Due to the unique constraints and regulations around continuing education for safety training, he had very specific requirements that the LMS needed to meet for Public Safety to stay compliant.
